Hiking Test

Today I loaded up my Osprey pack with all the stuff I'll need and did a trial two hour walk around the Trempealeau refuge. Walk was great and my pack felt light and comfortable. Very pleased with the afternoon's test. Can't wait to get to the Emerald Isle and do some real testing.

Testing

My tent has arrived and I am in the process of field testing my gear in the back yard. Monday was the first night, and the temperature got down to 34 degrees. Sleeping bag stayed warm, tent did not have any condensation in it...two of my major concerns. I did only make it until 12:46 then I came in to eat a pb&j and slept in my bed. Need to create a pad for my hips that I can carry with me and then I'll be set. Getting geared up and thinking about the trip more each day. Can't wait.

Preparations

Tent is on the way. Opted with a nice 1.5 person tent, on clearance by the way, but it should be a great fit and asset to my trip. Folds up to 5.5"x18" so it will be an easy and valuable addition. Rain gear is ready to go as well. Started to get excited but there's a lot of work to do in getting prepared that still needs to be finished.

Upcoming Departure

I will be finally making my trip to Ireland on November 18, 2010! Leaving from Chicago and taking a direct flight into Dublin, where I plan to spend a couple days exploring the city and the National Library to work on various projects. Looking forward to the trip, working on getting everything ready to go.
